My Viewing Experience of The Beatles Get Back: The Rooftop Concert

Image
When I discovered that select IMAX theaters were going to present The Beatles Get Back: The Rooftop Concert for only three days, my excitement dashed as I was not sure if it would be playing in a theater near me. Luckily, the theater turned out to only be ten minutes from me. As a Valentine's Day present my Dad purchased the tickets and even went with me to see it this afternoon. He is NOT a Beatles fan, but he said he enjoyed it very much. I have been an avid Beatles fan since 1994, so of course I loved every minute they were on the screen. It was neat to see the segment in its entirety since viewers have only seen part of it on The Beatles Anthology or even back in 1970 when the original Let It Be movie was released. I enjoyed the beginning which gives the viewer a glimpse of The Beatles rise to success and fame, backed with their most familiar songs. This opening can also be seen the Peter Jackson documentary on Disney+ and soon-to-be released DVD set. It was an

What's True?                                         Author's Note About The Big Telephone This was the first Dragnet story I wrote back in 2010.  The idea for The Big Telephone stemmed from the 1954 New Zealand case that was depicted in the 1994 movie Heavenly Creatures .  At the time, I felt people were more familiar with the 1960s revival series rather than the original Dragnet from the 1950s--be it radio or television.  By this time, I had acquired my copy of Dan Moyer's Just the Facts, Ma'am as well as Michael Hayde's My Name's Friday books.   Television characters are usually one-dimensional.  I wanted to create a history for Sgt. Friday.  I wanted to show Joe's thoughts and reactions of the 1960s--clothing, teenagers, music, morals of the day.  Being a huge Beatles fan, I had to sprinkled in a few references in all of my Dragnet 1967 stories, even though Sgt. Friday is not a fan.   I was ecstatic when I learned that Jack Webb himself liked The

Mrs. Rhodes said she'd have her husband contact them immediately to discuss that afternoon. She knew he could reach him at the bank since it was his lunch break. Fifteen minutes later the call came through and Joe again explained the situation. Mr. Rhodes agreed and said he and his wife would be there at three with Bobby. Before hanging up, Joe asked for the description of the car they would be driving. At two-thirty Joe and Bill parked down the street from the Wilcox house

First, he skimmed the entry and others after it. He then read aloud every entry that dealt with Mrs. Wilcox's last hours of her life and the aftermath. "Saturday, April eighth, nineteen-sixty-seven," Joe began to read Gail's diary entry. "Nadine has tomorrow all planned out. She told me about it this afternoon. It is after midnight as I write this. Tomorrow evening, after dinner, is when it will take place. Nadine made up her mind

Chapter Three Joe couldn't get Gracie and the last night out of his mind.  We've had nice dinners like that in the past, but those didn't end so…so…  he couldn't finish that thought.  At least, not in the last decade...  his mind went on. Next, he wondered if she was thinking the same thing he was this morning on her way to work. As he neared Parker Center, his mind switched to work mode. He and Bill were supposed to meet with Mr. Stanley at 9 a.m. this morning and drive him on his route to see if he could remember anything about th

From his mother's death to the 'Jane Doe' case, and tonight at Gracie's—he wasn't sure he could take any more. He kept tossing and turning. Sleep was the furthest thing from his mind now. But he was over tired and had to get up in six hours. He had gotten home from Gracie's around one-thirty this morning. The night's events kept swirling around in his mind. Part of him felt like he was a teenager again and the other was a bundle of nerv
